Available:Daily, 24 hours. Specimens received before 1 PM are set up the same day.
Turnaround:3-4 days
Specimen:Sterile genital swab, cul de sac fluid,
Volume:Sterile swab (no swabs with wooden shafts please)
Container:Sterile swab in Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Temperature:Transport on ice. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than one hour.
Rejection:Specimen not submitted in Viral/Chlamydia transport media.
Normal:No Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumoniae/psittaci isolated.
Uses:To detect and identify Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumoniae/psittaci infection in genital specimens.
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a chlamydia infection.
