Includes:Isolation and identification of Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumoniae/psittaci from nasopharyngeal specimens.

Available:Daily, 24 hours. Specimens received before 1 PM are set up the same day.
Turnaround:3-4 days
Specimen:Sterile nasopharyngeal (NP) swab
Volume:Sterile swab (no swabs with wooden shafts please)
Container:Sterile swab in Viral/Chlamydia transport media
Temperature:Transport on ice. Refrigerate if transport is delayed more than 1 hour.
Rejection:Specimens not submitted in Viral/Chlamydia transport media will be rejected.
Normal:No Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumonia/psittaci isolated
Uses:Detects and identifies infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis/pneumonia/psittaci.
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a Chlamydia infection.
