Container:Heparinized syringe or blood culture bottle
Temperature:Room temperature transport to lab within 30 minutes.
Rejection:Improper specimen device.
Left at room temperature more than 12 hours.
Refrigerated or frozen specimens.
Normal:No growth at 5 days
Uses:Identify microorganisms that may cause infection
Limitations:Antibiotic therapy may inhibit growth A negative culture does not necessarily rule out infection
