Specimen:Fresh stool or stool in Carey-Blair media -Orange capped para-Pak Vial. (Minimum 1 gram of stool)
Volume:1 culturette
Container:Culturette, clean container or Carey-Blair media
Temperature:Room temperature. Refrigerate if more than one hour delay in transport
Normal:No Cryptrosporidium seen
Uses:Determine the presence of Cryptosporidium
Limitations:A negative smear does not necessarily rule out the presence of Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium EIA (GIAR) may be more sensitive than smear.
