Uses:Aids in the detection and identification of viral infection.

Detectable Viruses – Adenovirus, CMV, Enterovirus, HSV, VZV

Please notify Virology if looking for Measles or Mumps
Limitations:Proper specimen collection and transport are critical in the detection of etiological agents. A negative result does not rule out a viral infection.

If Adenovirus, CMV, HSV, or VZV is the only virus suspected, PCR is more sensitive and specific and has a turnaround time of 1 day.
