Specimen:Stool Specimen
Volume:Pea-sized stool.
Container:Clean specimen container or stool collection container
Temperature:Transport to laboratory within one hour or refrigerate.
Rejection:Specimen contaminated with urine.
Uses:Qualitative detection of blood in stool which may be indicative of gastrointestinal disease.
Limitations:Serial fecal specimens of 3 is recommended when screening asymptomatic patients. Aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided for 7 days prior to test. Many foods (meats, fruits, vegetables) can produce a false positive or false negative result.
