Normal:Dependent upon fluid type.
Uses:Diagnosis of inflammatory pancreatitis. Most patients with pancreatic ascites have high peritoneal fluid amylases, as well as amylase elevations in serum and urine.
Limitations:Glucose greater than 1000mg/dL interferes. Oxalate, fluoride or citrate depresses results. Lipemic samples may contain inhibitors which falsely depress results.
