Temperature:Transport to lab within 30 minutes.
Rejection:Hemolyzed specimens, specimens received more than one hour after collection to avoid falsely decreased results.
Normal:60 -100 mg/dL
Uses:Determine glucose level, monitor therapy with insulin, evaluate carbohydrate metabolism.
Limitations:A fasting specimen is usually preferable for evaluation of diabetes mellitus.
