Specimen:Bone marrow aspirate
Volume:0.5 mL
Container:Heparinized syringe, Fungal Blood Culture Bottle, or isolator tube.
Temperature:Room temperature
Rejection:improper specimen device.
Left at room temperature more than 8 hrs.
refridgerated or frozen specimens.
Normal:No fungus isolated at 4 weeks.
Uses:Identify microorganisms that may cause infection.
Limitations:Anti-fungal therapy may inhibit growth. A negative culture does not necessarily rule out infection.
