Container:Blue top tube (3.2% sodium citrate)
Temperature:Transport within 30 minutes of collection; can be frozen up to two weeks.
Rejection:Tubes not filled to the line. Specimens which are clotted, hemolyzed, diluted with I.V. fluids, or contaminated with heparin.
Normal:50-150% of normal activity.
Uses:To detect specific coagulation Factor XI activity.
Limitations:Results in patients receiving anticoagulation therapy or with a circulating inhibitor may be limited. Avoid coumadin therapy for 2 weeks and heparin therapy for 2 days.
