Specimen:Nasopharyngeal washes, aspirates or tracheal aspirates. NP washes preferred.

Container:Nasal wash kits. Nasal wash kits are available from the laboratory.
Temperature:Room temperature
Rejection:Insufficient nasal wash volume.
Swab in any liquid media.
Normal:Negative for Influenzae A/B by EIA
Uses:Aids in the diagnosis of Influenzae A and B
Limitations:Negative test result does not necessarily rule out the presence of Influenzae A/B. A more sensitive test for influenzae is the Respiratory Infectious Disease Panel by PCR (RIDPP).
