Normal:WBC's not increased
Uses:Identify the presence of WBC's which are often increased in bacterial infection
Limitations:Gram stain is not as sensitive as culture. Some viral infections may also cause increased WBC's in the stool. The absence of WBC's does not necessarily rule out bacterial infection.
