August 26, 2009
EPIC GO-LIVE: We went live with EPIC at 7:00 am on August 25, 2009. To
date over 180 professional staff members including APNs, PAs and CRNAs
have completed or are scheduled to train. During this go-live week and
into next week, there will be approximately 45 to 50 EPIC staff on-site at
different times for support as well as our own staff. You should see
people in blue shirts everywhere. They can help. If you cannot get the
problem resolved, go to the intranet and click on CIS Corner, and then on
Issue Reporting. This provides guidance on who to call for technical
issues, security issues, pharmacy issues, etc. Finally, if in doubt, call
3CIS to get someone in the Command Center. Remember that there is a
workstation just inside the laboratory entrance to Dayton Children’s. At
that station, you can print a list of where your patients are located when
you arrive to round. There are instructions posted for use.
While we have gone live and have trained a number of surgeons, we intend
to keep surgery orders (pre-op, post-op and AHU admits from the OR) on
paper until the November go-live in surgery. So, for the ENT physicians
who admit post-op patients to the AHU, keep doing your orders on paper for
now.
EPIC TRAINING FOR SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER: Professional staff members and
APNs, CRNAs and PAs who need training can sign up for either the two hour
or the four hour class on September 9 or 23 (8:00 am to noon), September
16 (5:00 pm to 9:00 pm), October 7 or 21 (8:00 am to noon) or October 14
(5:00 pm to 9:00 pm). These are the only dates currently planned for
September or October. Questions? Call Amy Blevins at 937-641-5871.
NEW PHYSICIAN RECEPTION: We will welcome a number of new professional
staff members including several of our psychologists at the reception to
be held on September 9, 2009, at the Moraine Country Club, from 5:30 pm to
7:00 pm. All members of the professional staff should have received
invitations. I hope that you can join us to renew old friendships and to
meet the new members of our staff. Call Judy Cruea to RSVP at 937-641-3666
or crueaj@childrensdayton.org.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD: During the past year, the professional staff
executive committee approved the creation of a new award that is intended
to recognize the contributions of professional staff members who have been
on staff at least 10 years. In the August mailing from the professional
staff office, you received a description of the award, the criteria for
eligibility and the mechanism to nominate one of your colleagues. Up to
three professional staff members could be selected and honored at the
Professional Staff Recognition Banquet in the spring. If you need more
information, contact John Jacher at 937-641-3000, extension 8670.
H1N1 AND THE 2009-10 RESPIRATORY DISEASE SEASON (Have you signed up for
vaccine?): The Montgomery County Health Department recently sent
information that states that all physicians who plan to give H1N1 vaccine
must preregister with ODH. McKesson will be the vaccine distributor and
will use the lists approved by ODH to identify providers who want vaccine.
For more information, e-mail me and I’ll e-mail you the documents. The
regular seasonal flu vaccine will be distributed as it was previously and,
in fact, some of you have already started immunizing patients.
