MOLECULAR AND BIOCHEMICAL GENETICS LAB PURCHASED NEW DNA TESTING PLATFORM: The molecular and biochemical genetics lab at Dayton Children's is excited about our recent purchase of a new molecular diagnostic testing platform. The autogenomics INFINITI analyzer (www.autogenomics.com) will allow us to fully automate the post amplification and mutation detection phase of our molecular assays using DNA microarray chips. We will move most of our current manual assays to this new platform and are already validating the thrombophilia mutation panel on the new analyzer. Over the next several months, we will be validating the cystic fibrosis ACOG/ACMG panel of mutations and bringing this screening test inhouse. We will also use the new analyzer to begin offering several pharmacogenetics assays that detect gene mutations associated with variation in drug metabolism. This is an innovative new frontier in personalized medicine. Please let us know if you have suggestions for molecular testing you would like to see offered at Dayton Children's.  Watch future Flash Faxes for testing announcements. For more information, contact Leslie Willis in the molecular and biochemical genetics lab at 937-641-3262.

URGENT CARE CENTER HOLIDAY HOURS: As we head into the holiday season we want to keep you informed of the hours of operation for the urgent care center (UCC) on the hospital main campus. The UCC will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The UCC will be open from 12:00 pm  to 7:00 pm on Christmas Eve and 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm on New Year's Eve. If you have any questions, call Cathy Lewis at 937-641-4647.

PULMONARY CLINIC IS LIVE ON EPIC: The pulmonary clinic went live on EPIC early in September. For the past four weeks, the clinic has been using the electronic record for documentation of visits, prescriptions, telephone calls and letters to referring physicians. You should be receiving letters from the clinic the same day as the appointment, in most cases. The emergency department goes live this week with tracking and triage capability as well as computerized order entry (medications excluded). Questions or comments, please call Tom Murphy at 937-641-5871.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATES: The parking garage is moving steadily closer to completion. The expectation is that the garage for patients will be completed in early December. The Taggart Building entrance will be renovated to coincide with the completion of the parking garage. The three west project is also moving forward, with the hope that it will be completed by midwinter.

TAMPERPROOF SCRIPTS DELAYED: The implementation date for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services requirement that tamperproof prescriptions must be used for all Medicaid patients has been delayed until March 31, 2008.
