What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday hopes to spark a nationwide movement of people and organizations who want to celebrate giving and encourage more community support during the holiday season. The intent is to create an annual national day of giving the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, the collective power of charities, families, businesses and individuals will transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday will create a national movementaround the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become
days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.
#GivingTuesday is not a new giving platform, but a call to action. The goal is to help #GivingTuesday
become a major part of the holiday season, putting giving upfront in November rather than an
afterthought in December or the New Year.
How is Dayton Children’s involved in #GivingTuesday?
Dayton Children’s is participating in #GivingTuesday in an effort to raise money for the pediatric cancer and blood disorders endowment fund. The endowment was created to enhance an already family-focused cancer care program that will connect patients with multiple resources dealing with care, treatment, education, support groups and other resources. The money raised from #GivingTuesday will be put towards funding a social work and child life position specifically for cancer patients and families at Dayton Children’s.
On #GivingTuesday, Dayton Children’s will be releasing a very special video featuring four local cancer patients. The video portrays "The World of Hope" where kids use their vivid imaginations to cope with the fact that they have cancer. It will also showcase the special team of people at Dayton Children’s that help these kids through having cancer. It’s donations to the endowment that help to provide this special team.
