The primary care and health challenges of adolescents differ distinctly from those of children and adults. To meet those challenges successfully, the field of adolescent medicine has emerged as a recognized subspecialty of pediatric and adult medicine.
Adolescent Medicine provides diagnostic and treatment services for teens and young adults 12 to 21 years old. Care is provided for general medical problems and those particular to the teenage years. Concerns with growth and development, puberty, menses, acne, school and sexuality also are addressed. Outpatient services are provided at University Medicine and Pediatrics, and inpatient consultations are available for patients admitted to Dayton Children's.
