Dayton Children’s offers an asthma care program designed to provide your child with comprehensive management of acute asthma. Care is provided at our main campus location and is delivered in a semi-private setting where patients have access to telephones, television and VCR. Dayton Children’s also offers BREATHE, a program designed for in-home asthma care. The in-home program consists of education, a home assessment, and equipment and supplies if needed (pillows, mattress covers and vacuum cleaners) that help reduce the likelihood of an asthma attack. Three two-hour home visits and a fourth follow-up are included in BREATHE.

Conditions We Treat
The focus of the asthma care program (ACP) is aggressive treatment of patients with asthma by a specially trained staff of nurses and respiratory therapists. Patient/family education is provided with every clinical encounter, preparing each child and family for preventive and therapeutic asthma disease management.
Services We Offer
The asthma care program provides flexibility with the option to admit to the program under observation or inpatient status. Patients may be admitted to the program under observation to aggressively treat and resolve acute exacerbation in less than 24 hours. Patients may be admitted as inpatients if clinical criteria are present at the time of program admission or after observation without the need for bed transfer. A computer room, DVD, VCR and written tools are available within the unit.
