The inpatient care area for hematology-oncology is located on the fourth floor of the medical center. The unit has 10 rooms and can accommodate up to 15 patients. All rooms have telephones, televisions with DVD players, baths and/or showers. Dayton Children’s philosophy of family-centered care is evident in the Mills Family Lounge with a play area, a kitchenette and a parent laundry.

The unit provides 24-hour nursing care, including inpatient chemotherapy and procedures such as bone narrows and lumbar punctures. The professional staff has expertise in pediatric oncology, administration of chemotherapy, sickle cell disease and other blood-related disorders and supportive care.
Child life specialists provide activities to help patients cope with hospitalization. They also provide distraction and diversion activities during painful procedures. The hematology/oncology patients have supportive resources available throughout the continuum of care. These resources include clinical specialists for patient/family education, psychological and social work support, and nutritional services.
Overnight accommodations are available for significant family members.
