Shelly Rustagi, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Dayton Children's Hospital. She is originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and comes to Dayton Children’s from a fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado. She served her residency at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center and got her medical and bachelor’s degrees at the University of Missouri.
Dr. Rustagi is particularly interested in caring for children with celiac disease and eosinophilic esophagitis, in which the esophagus becomes inflamed due to allergens. She also has a special interest in resident education.
Dr. Rustagi loves to travel – she’s been to four continents already - and loves to swap travel tales!

Dr. Rustagi is an amazing doctor. She makes sure that you understand exactly what the diagnosis is. She makes sure to thoroughly explain things. I absolutely love this doctor and so does my daughter.

Dr. Rustagi was amazing! She listened intently to my concerns, and even validated some of my concerns that have been dismissed by multiple providers from the pediatrician's office. She asked a lot of questions and obtained a thorough history, and spent a great deal of time discussing plan of care and testing. As a medical professional myself, I feel very comfortable bringing my daughter to this physician. I trust her judgment and I would recommend her to anyone in need of pediatric GI services!

I absolutely adore Dr. Rustagi! She is beyond thorough, incredibly knowledgeable, so kind and tender with my little one, and so encouraging to me! Even when I had little faith and felt so discouraged and worried for my daughter, Dr. Rustagi had faith for me...reassured me, encouraged me, and had confidence that my daughter would get well! She was right all along! My little one "graduated" from regular visits with Dr. Rustagi to only needing to be seen as needed. Honestly, I'll miss Dr. Rustagi and her staff! Such amazing and wonderful providers! True blessings to us all! Thank you!
