Rasika Venkatraman, MD, is a pediatric intensivist in the Wallace Critical Care Complex at Dayton Children’s Hospital, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She works in both the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and the intermediate care unit (IMCU) with a team of intensivists, nurses, residents, respiratory therapists, social workers and dietitians to heal the most critically ill or injured children.

get to know me

I chose my specialty because...

even as a pediatric intern, I had a special interest in critical care medicine, and an aptitude for it. I admire the resilience of children. I consider it a privilege to be given the responsibility of caring for the sickest and most critically injured patients in the hospital, and to help bring them back to health. More recently, as a mother whose child had to endure an ICU stay, I feel a special empathy towards the families of our patients. Having understood first-hand what it means to be an ICU parent, I believe it has made me an even better physician.
