Dr. Canessa is the medical director of pediatric nephrology at Dayton Children's and assistant professor, department of pediatrics, Wright State University School of Medicine.

The department of pediatric nephrology provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for the entire range of disorders of the kidney, urinary tract and hypertension. Inpatient and outpatient consultations are available for patients with electrolyte acid base and blood pressure disorders. Consultation for calcium and phosphorus disorders, and blood pressure disorders are also provided. The department offers specialized procedures for renal replacement therapy including hemodyalysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemofiltration/hemodiafiltration (CAVH/CVVH) for acute inpatients.

The Dayton Police Department and the Dayton Fire Department have teamed up with the Dayton Dragons to host “Battle of the Badges,” a charity softball game, on June 23, 2013 to benefit the CARE House.
