Dayton Children’s pediatric audiology department takes pride in offering comprehensive audiological services for children. Services range from newborn infant hearing screening, basic audiometric evaluations and auditory brainstem response evaluations. We also will fit children with hearing loss with hearing aids, cochlear implants and BAHA equipment.
Our pediatric audiologists tailor testing to the child. We are the only pediatric audiology service in the Dayton region which means that we are more successful in testing a child’s hearing because our experts are trained specifically to work with kids.
Hearing loss is a common birth defect, affecting about 1 to 3 out of every 1,000 babies. A number of factors can lead to hearing loss, and about half the time, no cause is found. The good news is that hearing problems can be treated if they're caught early — ideally by the time a baby is 3 months old. It's important to get your child's hearing screened early and evaluated regularly.
The audiology specialists at Dayton Children’s are trained specifically in pediatrics and will work closely with your child’s primary care physician on any hearing problems the child may be experiencing.
A physician referral is necessary prior to the child’s first outpatient visit. All follow up appointments will be made during your clinic visit or by calling central scheduling.
MyKidsChart makes it easy for you to stay in touch with your child’s care team, view your child’s medication information and receive important health reminders by email.
