The department of medical genetics and birth defects at Dayton Children's accepts referrals for patients of any age with personal or family history of birth defects or genetic disease. The department provides children and adults with diagnostic evaluation, genetic testing and genetic counseling on-site or at one of several off-site locations. The Children's Medical Center of Dayton's medical genetics department is one of the six regional genetics centers supported by grants from the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Maternal and Child Health. Dayton Children's is the pediatric referral center for its 20-county region.
The genetics department provides genetic education to health care professionals, students and the community, and maintains an up-to-date video lending library on various topics in human genetics.
