Sleep center expands
The pediatric sleep center at Dayton Children’s has expanded. Children and teens may be referred to the sleep center for insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and other sleep disorders. Dayton Children’s sleep center is one of just a few in the country accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Its director, Michael Steffan, MD, is a board certified pediatric sleep specialist. Talk to your child’s doctor if you think your child could benefit from a referral to the pediatric sleep center.

New food service for hospitalized children
When children are hospitalized, tasty nutritious meals are important to the healing process. The dietetics
and nutrition department at Dayton Childre n’s has taken steps to ensure the meals children receive while in the hospital are fresh and nutritious. Two kitchenettes in key patient care areas feature special ovens that cook meals to order so that every child is ensured great taste and temperature at every meal. Breakfast is available anytime and children can choose from at least 12 entrees at every meal. We are pleased to offer this new service to the children and families we serve.

We check ID
Patient safety is a priority at Dayton Children’s. If you have visited Dayton Children’s recently, you will see our staff wearing badges stating “We check ID bands.” This is to let you know that our staff checks patient ID bands many times during a child’s stay in the hospital. This ensures that your child gets medications and procedures that are intended for him or her. We ask families to help us, too. If we forget to check your child’s ID, we want you to let us know. Together we can ensure that your child receives the best – and safest – pediatric care available.
