Is your child scheduled for surgery?
Remember, presurgery tours are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. We encourage all parents and families of children scheduled for surgery to attend a personal tour to get questions answered and to reduce anxiety. However, a presurgery tour DVD is now available if you and your child are unable to take a personal tour. The advanced surgery complex at Dayton Children’s is the only surgery center in the region fully staffed by pediatric specialists, including pediatric anesthesiologists. For more information on presurgery tours, call 937-641-3476. For a surgery DVD, call 937-641-3620.
Obesity still a concern for area’s children
The 2004 Regional Pediatric Health Assessment, which provides a snapshot of child health in the region, has just been released. Dayton Children’s will be using the findings from this assessment to develop health and safety programs in the coming months. Areas of concern in the region are childhood obesity, anxiety and asthma. While programs are in place to address these issues, the pediatric experts at Dayton Children’s will look at other ways to be more effective. Since the 2002 health assessment, we have seen an increase in children using seat belts or car seats and bicycle helmets. Key findings and a full report from the 2004 health assessment are available on our website at www.childrensdayton.org (Education and Support > Advocacy)
Kohl’s and Dayton Children’s renew partnership
Dayton Children’s and Kohl’s Department Stores have again partnered to offer parents and families in the region “A minute for kids.” This comprehensive health and safety campaign begins in September and continues through June 2006. Watch our website – www.childrensdayton.org for more information on a “A minute for kids” and to sign up for FamilyWise.
