All sessions of grand rounds for physicians are held in the Kogut auditorium on the lower level of The Children's Medical Center of Dayton. Continuing medical education (CME) and continuing nursing education (CEs) is provided as part of the medical center's mission of service, education, research and advocacy.

Topic: Obesity and Immune Deregulation

Speaker: Nancy Bigley, PhD; Professor of Microbiology and Immunology; Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine

Objectives:

1. Describe how obesity is a chronic low-grade inflammatory process contributing to a variety of comorbid conditions.
2. Discuss the effects of white adipose tissue in leading to and controlling obesity.
3. Review the role of leptin in hypothalamic function and both the innate and adaptive immune responses.

Objectives:

1. Review the basic common principles of implanted medical devices.
2. Recognize the relationship of dental health and disease to device function.
3. Illustrate the dental interventions that are contraindicated with specific medical devices.
